My Story

I spent much of my life partly chasing dreams and partly running from my pain. I grew up with a childhood full of physical, mental and sexual abuse, and for years I lived on the run from it, because I had never processed it.

Rock bottom became the place where I rebuilt my life. Sitting in a jail cell after my second DUI in 48 hours, I asked myself a question that changed everything: "Why do I continue to make decisions that hurt not only myself, but everyone around me? Why do I show up the way that I do?"

That was 16 years ago. I've been sober ever since, and I've spent the past 15 years chasing down the answer. That search has included many kinds of therapy and counseling and has given me the tools to overcome decades of self-destructive behavior.

How Can I Help

I can see through a man's pain and past his behavior. I believe that's a gift. It creates a space where men can lower their protective walls and be honest, sometimes for the first time, without feeling judged.

I understand self-hatred and shame, and how they build a false story that robs men of who they were created to be. My passion for hurting people comes first from a deep understanding of the dark places unprocessed pain can lead.

I'm also the CEO and co-founder of a company now in its 14th year. I know what it takes to go from an idea to bringing investors on board, and what the wild ride of having no plan B feels like. I also know what building something costs a marriage and a family. I co-founded and serve as chairman of the board of [NONPROFIT NAME], an organization dedicated to helping men become emotionally healthier. Before all that, I spent 30 years as a wilderness guide, working cowboy, horse trainer, horse shoer and ranch manager.

Marriage and Family

My wife Mary and I have been rebuilding a marriage that most couples don't survive. I understand how complicated it is to put a life and a marriage back together when it feels hopeless and bleak.

We have two kids at home and two young adults making their mark. We live in small-town Idaho, where we are raising healthy kids, cattle and horses, and trying to model a healthy marriage while still figuring it all out.
